Another year bites the dust! This one was a strange one in many ways in that we hit records for both dryness and wetness in the same year.
With a dry Spring and Summer a lot of events on grass did fall foul of hard ground (what a massive difference to the year before when it was too wet!). We also had water shortages and hosepipe bans across the country, affecting the Equine world too as a large user of water for drinking, washing and irrigation! The early dryness also affected crop yields, our most important one being grass for the Winter's hay/haylage, we are sure that will be affecting prices as Winter bites in 2026!
Having been a dry Summer, when we did finally get some rain in the Autumn it helped to keep cross country venues open longer than previous years, until the rain forgot to stop falling and we ended up as mud baths again, the dryness of the Summer now a distant memory.
We do however have high hopes for 2026 - not only because the Chinese Year of the Horse begins in February 2026 - but also because we are starting with a higher water course than 2025 but are still being forecast a dry Summer, which should hopefully mean a better year for Horse Events! Only time will really tell.
Before we go ahead into 2026 and forget about last year here are a few charts - we always love a few charts:
1. The last 15 Years growth line continues in an upwards direction, which is always healthy:

2. As usual we see the split of event types being driven by Showjumping and then Tuition with Showing moving up into 4th place. The previous year's Hobby Horse Craze is still continuing but appears to have settled at a steady percentage of events rather than going completely wild.

3. A new chart this year shows the percentages of cancelled shows. Last year was just over 5% - a low not seen for a few years - probably indicative of the relatively dry year. Nothing as crazy high as 2020 and 2021 when the Pandemic was causing events to be cancelled all over the place.

4. And our last chart for this year shows the usage of each of our domain names. Our original Horsevents.co.uk remains the most popular used at nearly 50% with the other 3 dividing up the remainder of visits. Horseevents.co.uk taking the 2nd spot but only just.

That is it for our 2025 review and we look forward to a busy and successful 2026 and wish anybody and everybody competing at any horse events (or taking part in tuition) this year the best of luck.
